WE – THE COMMON BODY2017
"We – The Common Body" is an interactive installation where inspirations drawn from the Dyson Sphere concept and Joe Davis' words—"If you build a bridge, sooner or later someone will cross it"—converge to explore the future. In light of the formalization of the Anthropocene era, the project poses questions about the dawn of the post-human epoch. Will superintelligence, capable of expansion, proliferate in a manner akin to human population growth, yet with incomparably greater dynamism?
The installation comprises three interconnected elements, each offering a unique perspective on these profound questions.
A) This View Has Potential
An incubating sphere containing earthworms—symbols of life and survival. The organic matter they generate triggers sensors, creating a living interaction that connects us to both the ecosystem and cosmic futures.
B) Vanitas
Seventeen domes where generative light responds to signals from the earthworms. This space, though seemingly empty, becomes a promise of the future—ready to be inhabited by unknown beings.
C) Virtual Phenotype
A virtual reality chair that bridges the body with the digital universe. It enables us to experience migration through generated sounds and images, highlighting the connection between archaic movement and contemporary technologies.
Together, these elements form a model of a common body, revealing our role in the transforming universe and the potential migration pathways in the eras to come.
