SHMIB2017

SHMIB (Simultaneous Hybrid of Improvised Music with Bioart) is an innovative sound installation resulting from the collaboration between artists and leafcutter ants. The inspiration for this work comes not only from the fascinating social and organizational structures of ants, but also from their unique sounds. Using sensitive contact microphones, the artists amplify these sounds inaudible to the human ear, creating improvised music with bioart elements, in which ants serve as an equal "instrument".

The use of sounds emitted by ants is a key element of the project—these unique sounds, being a form of insect communication, are repeatedly amplified in the music creation process. The project assumes interactivity and collaboration with full respect for all participating beings.

SHMIB emphasizes the importance of symbiosis between humans and nature, showing how sounds inaudible to humans can be used to create new forms of art. The installation encourages reflection on the role of humans as co-creators and participants in a world full of diverse forms of life and sounds.
